The core committee meeting of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Pir Pagara at the Raja House.
Syed Sadruddin Shah Rashidi, Murtaza Khan Jatoi, Syed Zain Shah, Dr Safdar Ali Abbasi, Dr Fehmida Mirza, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Ehsan Jatoi, Rahila Magsi, Mazhar Rahujo, Muzaffar Brohi, Saira Bano and Arbab Ibrahim participated in the meeting among others.
The meeting paid tribute to what it said the historic struggle of the people of Sindh against the canals project, in which political workers, intellectuals, lawyers, students and farmers of the province came out on the streets in large numbers that resulted in the recognition of their right to the Indus River’s water.
The GDA leadership expressed that the canal project would never be acceptable to the people of Sindh. They also asserted that the decision of corporate farming under public-private partnership would also not be accepted under any circumstances. The GDA leadership would not shy away from any step or sacrifice to protect the interests of Sindh, it was said.
The GDA leadership also condemned the process of displacing farmers in various districts of Sindh and called it unacceptable. The meeting called for following the Constitution and law.
