Gohar confirms Junaid Akbar’s resignation as PAC chairman

RAWALPINDI: PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Tuesday said he had received the resignation of Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Junaid Akbar on the instructions of the party’s founder chairman Imran Khan.

Talking to the media outside the Adiala jail here, Gohar said Junaid Akbar’s resignation had reached him through Aleema Khan. “This move is an internal matter of the party, but I confirm that the founder has asked Junaid Akbar to continue working,” he said.

Gohar made a compelling appeal for domestic ceasefire leading to the removal of politically motivated cases against Imran Khan and his release. He emphasized the necessity of restoring internal cohesion, advocating the release of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, and demanding an end to what he termed politically motivated cases and arrests.

“If a ceasefire with India is possible, then a ceasefire within the country should also be achieved,” Khan declared, highlighting the imperative of a united front. Khan lauded the Pakistan Army, recalling PTI’s rally in support of national unity and the armed forces, and celebrated the nation’s response, which resonated globally. “India’s arrogance has been crushed; Allah has been kind, and the prayers of the nation have been accepted,” he asserted, noting the global recognition of Pakistan’s strength.

Khan also addressed the changing dynamics of Pakistan’s international relations, predicting a significant shift in global perceptions.

Meanwhile, Aleema Khan, Noreen Khanum, and Uzma Khan were granted a meeting with their brother at the Adiala jail, alongside lawyers Salman Safdar and Zaheer Abbas Chaudhry. Former first lady Bushra Bibi also received a visit from her sister-in-law Meher-un-Nisa. However, PTI spokesperson Niazullah Niazi reported that three lawyers from the approved list were denied access, raising concerns over the implementation of court orders. Talking to the media outside the jail, Aleema Khan said Imran had left it to Junaid to decide which seat he wanted to retain. “If Junaid Akbar can run the PAC and the party together, then of course he should keep the PAC seat as well and focus 100 percent on the movement,” Aleema said.

Aleema said the PTI founder had warned that Modi would be very angry and he might resort to economic attack to take revenge on Pakistan. “We should not isolate our people; we should give them justice. Why don’t they talk about the CCTV footage of May 9, as it will be known why the punishments were given,” she quoted her brother as telling her.
