Rs500m allocated for procuring latest civil defence equipment

LAHORE:Following the directions of the chief minister, the Punjab Home Department has allocated Rs500 million for procuring modern Civil Defence equipment.

Alongside the initiative, Home Secretary Noor ul Amin Mengal has set a target for the registration of one million Civil Defence volunteers across the province. The grant for Civil Defence has been provided from the home department's Internal Security Fund, says spokesperson for Home Department. He stated that the Rs500 million would be used to procure modern equipment for Civil Defence across the province. The equipment includes mine detectors, snake cameras, electric sirens, fire extinguisher sets, bomb blankets, and IT equipment. This modern equipment is expected to enhance the operational capacity of Civil Defence in effectively managing emergency situations. The funds for the purchase of this advanced equipment were approved by the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order. Civil Defence will use the grant during the current fiscal year in accordance with legal requirements.

Meanwhile, the department was directed to train young volunteers across the province after registration. On the directions of the Punjab Home Secretary, Civil Defence and Rescue 1122 have conducted training drills for 118,289 individuals across the province over the past five days. The drills focused on emergency evacuation, fire-fighting techniques, and first aid in the event of enemy attacks or accidents.

According to the spokesperson for Home Department Punjab, students and other citizens across the province are being guided on responding effectively to emergency situation through ongoing training drills. He added that Civil Defence and Rescue 1122 are jointly conducting these drills throughout Punjab. The spokesperson stated that Civil Defence has been tasked with ensuring advance preparedness to tackle any emergency situation.
