Upper Kohistan exceeds target in girls’ school enrolment drive
MANSEHRA: The Upper Kohistan administration has enrolled more out-of-school girl students than the target set during the recently concluded enrolment drive in the district.
“Our district ranks second across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in enrolling out-of-school children into educational institutions,” Deputy Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan told reporters on Saturday.
He said the government had set a target of enrolling 451 out-of-school girls, including those who had dropped out earlier. “Owing to the dedicated efforts and a door-to-door campaign by the education department and district administration, we successfully enrolled 530 girls,” he added.
The same success was recorded among boys. The government had set a target of enrolling 3,000 boys, including both fresh and dropouts, but the administration managed to enroll over 4,000 students across the district.
“Both male and female District Education Officers played a vital role in this drive, enrolling fresh and previously dropped-out children into schools throughout the district,” Khan said.
A ceremony to honour education and district administration officials was held at Government Model High School in Dasu, where EDOs of both male and female education departments were awarded for their contributions.
“Although Upper Kohistan remains among the districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the lowest literacy rate, especially among women, this effectively organised campaign enabled us to enroll a record number of boys and girls,” Khan added.
He said that during the campaign, seminars and rallies were held to raise awareness among parents and highlight the importance of education in transforming their lives and the future of the country.
