Rs7 billion grant released for medicines in teaching hospitals

LAHORE:With the approval of the Punjab Provincial Cabinet, the Finance Department has released the second installment of Rs7 billion supplementary grant for payment of medicine dues in government teaching hospitals.

The Finance Department has transferred the funds to the accounts of government hospitals. So far, Rs14 billion funds have been transferred for payment of medicine dues in government hospitals. The third installment of the total amount will be released before the end of the financial year 2025. Mayo Hospital Lahore, General Hospital Lahore, Services Hospital Lahore, Nishtar Hospital Multan, Allied Hospital Faisalabad, Bahawal Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur and Family Hospital Rawalpindi, among other teaching hospitals, will pay the medicine dues.

Medical facilities in hospitals reviewed

A meeting to review medical facilities in hospitals was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Secretary Specialized Health Care and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood Khan. The meeting was attended by Special Secretaries Tariq Mahmood Rahmani and Zeeshan Shabbir Rana, Additional Secretaries and Deputy Secretaries. During the meeting, medical facilities in hospitals were reviewed in view of the current situation in the country.

The officers concerned also gave a briefing in this regard. Provincial Secretary Specialized Health Care and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood Khan said that in view of the current situation in the country, hospitals have been alerted. Arrangements are complete in the hospitals to deal with any emergency situation. The Health Secretary said that the biomedical equipment available in the hospitals should be ensured. The availability of life-saving medicines in hospitals should be ensured. Blood stock should be ensured in the blood banks of hospitals. The presence of HR in hospitals should also be ensured. In this regard, coordination is in progress with all the relevant departments.
