Naqvi discusses Indo-Pak tensions with Qatari PM
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Aamir and senior officials were also present during high level talks
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha on Tuesday, wherein they held detailed discussions on Pakistan-Qatar relations and bilateral cooperation as well as ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India in the wake of Pahalgam false flag operation.
Naqvi briefed the Qatari leadership on Pakistan’s firm and principled stance regarding Indian aggression and emphasised the serious threat to regional peace posed by India’s baseless accusations and actions following the Pahalgam incident. The interior minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s offer for an impartial international investigation, saying: “This offer strengthens our principled position…The world must know who masterminded the attack, who the real culprits are, and who benefitted from it”. Naqvi said India used the incident as a pretext to target the Indus Waters Treaty, which he described as Pakistan’s lifeline. “We desire lasting peace in the region but will not remain silent in the face of aggression,” the interior minister said. In response, the Qatari prime minister emphasised the need for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, saying: “We support a policy of de-escalation in the region and hope diplomatic initiatives will help lower hostilities”.
The Qatari premier also conveyed good wishes for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praising his efforts to steer Pakistan’s economy in the right direction. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Aamir and senior officials were also present during the high level talks.
