Modern technology to be used to prevent sale of stolen jewellery
LAHORE: Punjab police will prepare a plan of action in collaboration with the jewellers’ representatives to prevent the sale of stolen jewellery and for this purpose modern technology will be used to discourage this illegal activity.
Additional Inspector General of Police Shehzada Sultan made these remarks while meeting a 15-member delegation of Lahore Division Sarafa and Jewellers Association led by Chairman M Ahmed at the IG Office here on Tuesday.
DIG Waqas Nazir, SSP Investigation M Naveed, and DIG Investigation Zeeshan Raza were also present on this occasion.
The delegation demanded that police patrols in the jewellery markets be resumed and the CIA should also play a decisive role in resolving jeweller’ matters amicably.
Additional IG Punjab assured that modern technology would be used to find a permanent solution to this issue, for which the association’s cooperation would be essential. He announced the formation of a committee to ensure ongoing communication between the police and jewellers, where unresolved issues would be addressed.
He mentioned that modern technology would be employed for jewellers and their craftsmen who travel domestically for business purposes to help prevent any criminal incidents against them.
He emphasised that jewellers should be extremely cautious when purchasing jewellery, ensuring they record complete buyer details and keep a copy of national identity card. He assured the delegation that no CIA officer would harass any jeweller illegally, and no action would be taken without the involvement of association officials.
At the end of the meeting, the chairman of jewellers association presented a shield to the Additional IG on behalf of the association.
