Financial scam: JI asks PTI govt to disclose facts
PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Central) president, Abdul Wasi, has expressed serious concern over the alleged withdrawal of Rs36 billion in public funds from a bank in the underdeveloped Upper Kohistan district and asked the PTI government to immediately disclose the facts about the matter.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Abdul Wasi said that the matter pertaining to irregularities in the public funds was unearthed by speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on the floor of the house. He asked the government to investigate the matter transparently and bring all those responsible to account.
He stated that the alleged withdrawal represents one of the most significant financial scandals in the province’s history and called for an immediate inquiry to ascertain the truth. “As the custodian of the province’s resources, the government must fulfill its constitutional and moral responsibilities by informing the public of the actual facts,” he said.
Abdul Wasi also spoke about additional claims made by the speaker that nearly Rs200 billion may have been unlawfully withdrawn from banks in various districts of the province.
He said that PTI has been in power in the province for the past 13 years and during this period all the records of corruption, mismanagement and bad governance have been broken. He stressed the need for accountability and institutional reform in the province. “Those responsible for large-scale embezzlement of public funds must be brought to justice without delay,” he stressed.
