LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday met Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmed and two MPAs.
Present in the meeting were Asim Sher Maken and Khurram Khan. Matters pertaining to mutual interest, political situation, public welfare projects along with national as well as political affairs, budget and development projects were discussed in the meeting. The chief minister appreciated Ahmed for conducting affairs of the Punjab Assembly in a nice manner. The speaker congratulated Maryam for building a record number of houses under “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program. He appreciated her initiatives for granting Honhaar scholarships and laptops to talented students across Punjab.
Asim appreciated Maryam’s vision for launching the Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology project. He paid tribute to her for launching record development projects in a short span of time.
The assembly members lauded Maryam’s preference to hold consultations while launching development projects across Punjab. Asim acknowledged that the institute being launched in Sargodha is an example of its own. Khurram extolled that Maryam by launching record development projects in the province has refreshed
the memories of Quaid PMLN Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif. The chief minister said: “History bears witness that whenever the PMLN government comes into power, all the problems and grievances of people are redressed promptly. A network of development projects has been laid across Punjab. The government is working on important sectors comprising health, education, infrastructure and environmental pollution.
The journey of providing public service will be further accelerated. The price of bread in the entire province is lower as compared to other provinces. The government is resolving the problems of farmers on a priority basis.”
Crime rate: Maryam Nawaz has appreciated the Lahore Police for curbing crime rate in Lahore. She met IGP Dr Usman Anwar, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana, DIG Administration Imran Kishwar, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran and DIG Investigation Zeeshan Raza. She also hosted a luncheon for the police team.
The CM appreciated police efforts in the reduction of crime rate in Lahore. She underscored that the protection of the life and property of every citizen is the foremost responsibility of the state. She urged citizens to cooperate and support the police to maintain law and order across Punjab.
She said: “By introducing ranking system in the Police Department, the crime rate in Lahore and other cities is on the decline.
The crime graph coming down is the result of excellent policing. The Lahore Police Operation Wing’s laudable performance in the ‘Crime Index’ has made it a safe city as compared to London and New York cities. It is a great milestone for the Lahore Police and the Punjab government. The Lahore city has been included in the Safe City category due to adopting excellent strategy in combating crime.”
“Despite facing enormous challenges with regard to maintaining law and order in the province, achieving the crime reduction target speaks volumes for excellent teamwork and the CTD has been activated in this regard.
Every city, including Lahore, will be made the safest. By introducing ‘Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)’, the police performance and administration has significantly improved. Policing has been improved by adopting modern technology, taking immediate feedback and carrying out effective monitoring. The process of accountability has been ensured in the Police Department.”
Treatment of India-returned patients: Maryam Nawaz has directed providing free treatment to patients returning from India. After the recent outbreak of tension between India and Pakistan, Pakistani patients were sent back by India without completion of their treatment. It has been decided to ensure treatment of patients suffering from transplant and other diseases in the province.
She vowed: “Patients returning from India will not be left alone under any circumstances.” She issued directions to Health Department officials in this regard.
Condolence: Maryam Nawaz has expressed grief over the death of six children due to suffocation in a flour drum at Kot Momin. She expressed sympathies to the bereaved families. Maryam also expressed sorrow over the death of five passengers in a traffic accident near Shorkot. She expressed sympathies to the bereaved families.
