Extortion suspect remanded into CTD custody

PESHAWAR: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Peshawar on Monday handed over an extortion suspect to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on a five-day physical remand.

The accused was presented before ATC Judge Muhammad Iqbal Khan.During the hearing, the court was informed that the suspect, Safeerullah, along with his accomplices, impersonated a member of a banned organization and demanded extortion of Rs. 10 million from a local businessman in Peshawar. He threatened to kill the businessman and his children if the payment was not made.

The CTD requested the court for physical remand, stating that further investigation was needed. The court entertained the request and granted a five-day physical remand of the accused.It is noteworthy that the accused had filed a pre-arrest bail application in the ATC, which was rejected after the court heard arguments. He was arrested on the court premises.
