MANSEHRA: The district administration has launched a crackdown against nanbais (bread sellers), who continued to sell 120-gram bread at Rs20, despite a recent drop in flour prices in the market. “All nanbais selling 120-gram bread for Rs20 will be fined and sent to jail,” Deputy Commissioner Khalid Iqbal told a meeting of department heads and representatives of devolved departments at his office here on Saturday. The deputy commissioner, addressing officials including those from the District Food Department, said that although the price of wheat flour had decreased since the beginning of the local harvesting season, many nanbais were still charging inflated prices. District Food Controller Sheeraz Anwar Khan informed the meeting that his department had already begun action against nanbais selling underweight bread at higher prices despite a significant drop in flour rates in Mansehra, Oghi, Balakot, Darband and Baffa-Pakhal tehsils of the district.—Correspondent
