PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has ordered the capital city police chief (CCPO) and SP Cantt Peshawar to personally appear before the court on Friday in a writ petition filed against the alleged illegal detention of the court’s project director and his relatives.
The court also barred any legal action against the petitioners and directed an inquiry against the station house officer (SHO) concerned. A two-member bench comprising Justice Arshad Ali and Justice Qazi Jawad Ihsan heard the petition filed by Abdul Haleem.
During the hearing, the petitioners’ counsels, Aminur Rehman Yousafzai and Khalid Khan Mohmand, informed the court that Cantt Police raided the house of their clients and detained them.
Abdul Haleem, the PHC Project Director, was also held for several hours before being released. However, his relatives remained missing. The counsels stated that a woman had arrived from Oman and had allegedly gone missing. The raid on the petitioners’ residence was carried out in connection with this case, prompting them to file a writ petition in the PHC.
During the hearing, SP Cantt and the SHO concerned appeared before the court. They claimed that the detained individuals had been released. However, the court was informed that they were still in custody.
