Historic bronze for Pakistan women’s baseball team at Asian Cup Qualifier
LAHORE: Pakistan’s women’s baseball team made history in Thailand, securing their first-ever bronze medal at the Women’s Baseball Asian Cup Qualifier, a feat hailed as a proud moment for the country and a milestone in the nation’s sporting journey.
With a magnificent performance, the team defeated hosts Thailand 5-1 in the bronze medal match, showcasing resilience and tactical brilliance under pressure. The victory also earned them a coveted spot in the Asian Women’s Baseball Championship, scheduled to be held in China from October 24 to November 2, 2025.
This upcoming championship will serve as a qualifier for the Women’s Baseball World Cup. Speaking to media, Secretary General of Pakistan Federation Baseball and Team Leader Syed Fakhar Ali Shah credited the team’s discipline and strategy for the historic achievement.
“It’s a proud day for Pakistan,” said Fakhar Ali Shah. “Despite a loss to Thailand in the super round, we came back stronger, stuck to our strategy, and showed what this team is truly capable of.”
He further explained that the team had already qualified for the bronze medal match, and their final super round games were used as warm-up opportunities to fine-tune tactics.
The win has sparked celebrations across Pakistan’s baseball community. President of Pakistan Federation Baseball Shaukat Javed, Chairperson Women’s Wing Sadia Alvi, Secretary Aisha Eram, and other federation officials praised the team’s valiant effort and congratulated the coaching staff including Akhtar Hussain Shah, Umair Imdad Bhatti, Zubair Wattoo, and Nadeem Sajjad Shah. “This medal is not just a win—it’s a message that Pakistani women are making their mark in international arenas,” said Sadia Alvi.
