Robbery suspect killed by accomplices’ firing in ‘encounter’

LAHORE: A robbery suspect in the custody of the Crime Control Department (CCD) Iqbal Town was fatally shot by his own accomplices during an attempted escape on Saturday.

According to a CCD spokesperson, the accused, Asif Khan, was being transported to Sherakot Police Station for the recovery of stolen goods and to assist in the arrest of his partners in crime. During the transfer, unknown assailants ambushed the police convoy, opening indiscriminate fire in a bid to free Khan. In the chaos, Asif Khan was critically wounded by the bullets fired by his own accomplices. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, Khan succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The attackers managed to flee the scene, and a search operation has been launched to apprehend them. Police said an investigation is underway.

Prisoner dies in hospital

A prisoner undergoing medical treatment at Services Hospital passed away on Saturday.

The deceased identified as Nadeem Bashir, 37, had been held in the Camp Jail and was reportedly facing charges in a drug-related case. Sources said Bashir had been shifted to the hospital for treatment after his health deteriorated.

Following his death, the body was transferred to the morgue for further legal procedures. Police officials stated that an inquiry has been initiated to determine the cause of death, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted. Further investigations are underway.

Floral wreath laid on grave of martyred cop

The Lahore Police Guard visited the grave of martyred Sub-Inspector Shamshad Ahmad on his 30th death anniversary. A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a salute at the martyr’s grave, laid a floral wreath and offered prayers for the departed soul. Shamshad embraced martyrdom on April 26, 1995, during an operation against proclaimed offenders.

208 raids conducted on drug dealers’ hideouts

A total of 208 raids were conducted on drug dealers’ hideouts across the province, within 24 hours as part of the Drug-Free Punjab vision.

During the operations, 115 drug dealers were arrested and cases were registered against them. Punjab Police spokesperson said that during the raids, 63 kilograms of charas, 4 kilograms of ice (methamphetamine), 1,119 liters of liquor, 6 kilograms of heroin, and other narcotics were recovered from the possession of the accused.
