LAHORE:Dr M Qadeer Alam, Assistant Inspector General (Judicial), Punjab Prisons, has been accepted as an academic researcher at the prestigious Centre for Criminology, University of Oxford.
Dr Alam will undertake a research project titled “Comparative Analysis of Prison Reforms Introduced During the Nineteenth and Twentieth Century in Indian and British Systems.” He is the first officer from the Punjab Prisons Department to be affiliated with the University of Oxford in an academic capacity. His selection is being viewed as a major milestone for the department and a significant step forward in Pakistan's prison reform discourse.
Officials expressed confidence that Dr Alam’s research would contribute meaningfully to ongoing reform efforts in Punjab’s prison system, which houses a significant majority of the incarcerated population in Pakistan. His work is expected to provide comparative insights that could inform policy shifts and administrative improvements in prison management and rehabilitation practices across the province.
