The alarming rise in road accidents in Karachi, which has become a matter of grave concern. Almost every day, we hear of tragic incidents due to reckless driving, speeding, poor traffic management and lack of road maintenance. Public buses, rickshaws and motorcyclists often ignore traffic rules, putting countless lives at risk. Potholes and broken roads only worsen the situation and pedestrians have no safe crossings. There is also little to no enforcement of traffic laws.
The government must take immediate steps to improve road conditions, enforce traffic laws strictly and raise public awareness. The installation of traffic cameras, penalties for violations and better urban planning are essential.
