PPP to stage rally against canals project in Sukkur on 25th
Nawab Wassan says PPP is against sit-ins to block highways
SUKKUR: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has planned a rally against the controversial canals project in Sukkur on April 25, PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro announced on Monday.
Talking to the media in Khairpur alongside MNA Nafisa Shah, Nawab Wassan and other party leaders, he said President Asif Ali Zardari never allowed the federal government to construct the canals, adding that constitutionally the President has no power to give permission for the canals. He said the PPP is against sit ins to block highways.
He said the Council of Common Interests (CCI) is the forum to discuss controversial projects, therefore, the Sindh chief minister called for summoning CCI meeting.
He said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had led a sit in against Kalabagh Dam. Nisar Khuhro earlier held a meeting with party leaders to discuss preparations for the Sukkur rally. The PPP had held a big rally in Hyderabad on April 18 against the canals project.
