PPP should prefer water over govts: Hassan
LAHORE:Pakistan People’s Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza has said that if the PPP has to sacrifice the governments of Sindh and Balochistan on the canal issue, then it should do so.
The construction of new canals will weaken the country and the federation, said the PPP leader while talking to the media on the occasion of the wedding of PPP leader Abid Siddiqui’s daughter.
Syed Hassan Murtaza said that water is not only a problem of Sindh and Punjab, it is a problem of Pakistan. The problem of water is more of Punjab than Sindh, said Murtaza. He added we are already getting 20 percent less water from IRSA.
He said this is not the first but the fourth crop in which the Punjab government is snatching the farmers’ produce. He asked that if no new water reservoir is built, from where will the water come in the new canals? One of the five reservoirs is empty, from which reservoir will it be filled? The Pakistan People’s Party leader said that the government has created such a serious crisis that our lands will become barren.
The Pakistan People’s Party cannot afford to remain silent on this issue under any circumstances because this is a problem of the common man's bread and we cannot compromise on the food security of the people.
