2014 sit-in: PTI’s Azam Swati acquitted in Section 144 case
Swati appeared in court of Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas along with his lawyers team including Sohail Khan
ISLAMABAD: A local court on Friday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati in a case of Section 144 violation during the 2014 sit-in.
Swati appeared in the court of Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas along with his lawyers team including Sohail Khan and Sardar Shubhish Khan.
Advocate Sohail Khan stated that it was a case of 2014 and read out the contents of the first information report (FIR), saying no formal charges were made against his client. “The provisions that were made do not apply to my client in any way,” he stated and pleaded the court to acquit Swati.
Advocate Shubhish Khan stated that the prosecution had failed to present any evidence so far against his client. Following completion of the arguments, the court initially reserved its decision and later pronounced the verdict, accepting Swati’s acquittal application.
Margalla police station had registered a case of violation of Section 144 against Azam Swati.
