LONDON: The wife of Khan of Kalat Mir Suleman Dawood has breathed her last after losing battle to cancer.

Speaking to The News, Khan Suleman Daud, the 35th Khan of Kalat, confirmed that his wife died after several unsuccessful treatments of cancer in the top UK and European hospitals.

Khan of Kalat sought asylum in Britain in 2007 after Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti was killed and the grand Baloch Jirga asked Khan of Kalat to go abroad to take up the case at the International Court of Justice.

Although nothing could be done at the ICC due to legal and political hindrances, since then Khan of Kalat has been living in self-imposed exile in Cardifff with his wife and children. Khan’s eldest son lives in Kalat but three younger children live with their father.

“It’s indeed a very tragic moment in my life that my wife’s soul has departed. She was my lifelong companion who stood by me throughout and always supported me in everything I did. She was a great companion, a brilliant mother and wife and a wonderful human being,” Khan of Kalat said while paying emotional tribute to his wife.

After reaching UK, the Khan of Kalat chose to live in the countryside of Cradiff keeping in mind his wife’s health condition. It is understood that the funeral will be held in Cardiff and mass prayers will be held in London’s Regent’s Park Mosque in a few days. A decision is yet to me made whether the dead body will be buried in the UK or flown to Kalat, Balochistan.
