Cabinet okays up to 188% pay raise for its members
Amendment to Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Allowances and Salaries) Act, 1975 has been approved
ISLAMABAD: After the recent salary hike for members of parliament, the federal cabinet has also approved a significant increase in the salaries and allowances of its members.
According to sources, federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisors will have their salaries increased by 188 per cent.
The federal cabinet has approved the summary of the increase in the salaries of federal ministers and ministers of state. An amendment to the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Allowances and Salaries) Act, 1975 has been approved.
After the approval of the bill, the salary of a federal minister, minister of state and advisor will be Rs519,000. Earlier, the salary of a federal minister was Rs200,000 and that of a minister of state was Rs180,000. A 159 per cent increase in the salary of a federal minister has been approved.
The salaries of the minister of state and advisor to the prime minister have also been increased by 188 per cent. The federal cabinet has approved the summary through circulation. The Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Salary, Allowances and Promissory Notes Amendment Bill, 1975) has been approved through the circulation summary. Now this bill will be presented in the parliament for approval. Under the law, any bill must be approved by the cabinet before being presented to parliament. Sources further said that the said summary was removed from the agenda at the last minute from the cabinet meeting on February 4.
