Customs seizes smuggled tyres worth Rs75m

The Enforcement Collectorate Karachi in a successful operation on Saturday seized smuggled tires worth Rs75 million.

Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for the customs, said that in compliance with the zero tolerance policy of the government of Pakistan against smuggling and in the light of the instructions, a series of anti-smuggling operations is continuing successfully.

This operation was carried out on the confidential information received by Collector Customs Enforcement Moinuddin Wani from a sensitive agency.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of the Sindh Rangers 62 Wing under the leadership of Additional Collector Customs Enforcement Basit Hussain, Deputy Collector Ms Rabil Khokar and Assistant Collector Yasir Kabir.

Raids were carried out on various warehouses located in the Tyre Market, Old Sabzi Mandi, University Road, from where a large number of smuggled used tyres were seized by the staff of the Anti-Smuggling Organisation.

The tyres were transported to the ASO warehouse in 12 Mazda trucks, one dumper, two twenty-foot containers and one forty-foot container and a detailed examination was conducted to determine their quantity and value.

As a result of the detailed examination, the total quantity of seized tyres of various foreign brands and sizes is 5,027 and the value is Rs75 million.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Customs Act.
