JI condemns suicide bombings in Bannu
LAHORE:Jamaat-e-Islami emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has condemned suicide bombings in Bannu, offering prayers for the deceased and wishing a swift recovery for the injured.
In a statement on social media platform X, Rehman expressed deep sorrow over the attack, emphasising that civilians were targeted while they were breaking their fast. He described the incident as tragic and deplorable, questioning the increasing frequency of terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“These rising incidents of terrorism are a glaring failure of both federal and provincial governments. They also raise serious questions about the state’s security policies,” he stated. “Why has this conflict, ongoing for over two decades, not been resolved? How long will innocent civilians continue to be targeted? Despite billions being allocated for security, why has an effective system not been put in place?”
Referring to the suicide attack at Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak, which claimed the lives of several people, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (S) leader Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq, Rehman pointed out that terrorists are selectively targeting individuals. He added that the writ of the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan is nearly non-existent.
He also condemned the recent explosion in Khuzdar, which resulted in the deaths of five people. “JI firmly denounces these terrorist attacks and urges the government to address the root causes of terrorism.”
Rehman called for policy-making through consultation with all political stakeholders, asserting that military operations were never a sustainable solution to the crisis and will not establish lasting peace either.
He further stressed the need for meaningful negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan to ensure regional stability. “Conflict between the two nations only harms the people and benefits their enemies,” he warned. He also underscored that Afghanistan’s territory must never be used for terrorist activities against Pakistan.
