Aaqib to continue as interim head coach for NZ series
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that Aaqib Javed will continue in his role as interim head coach for Pakistan’s upcoming tour of New Zealand. Despite the team’s early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB has expressed confidence in Javed’s ability to guide the team through this critical phase.
Originally appointed to lead the team until the conclusion of the Champions Trophy, Javed’s tenure was expected to end following Pakistan’s disappointing performance. However, the PCB believes that Javed’s experience and expertise make him the right choice to help Pakistan recover and regain form in both ODI and T20I formats during the New Zealand tour.
In addition to Aaqib Javed, the PCB has appointed former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf as the new batting coach. Known for his exceptional batting skills and deep cricketing knowledge, Yousuf is expected to provide valuable insights and improve the performance of Pakistan’s batting line-up during the tour.
The PCB has also confirmed the full player support staff for the tour, ensuring that the team has a comprehensive support structure to succeed. This move is part of the PCB’s long-term strategy to stabilize the squad and build confidence as the team prepares for future international competitions.
The Pakistan team is scheduled to depart for New Zealand on March 12, with the five-match T20I series set to commence on March 16. In addition to the T20Is, Pakistan will also play three ODIs, with the tour running until April 5.
As Pakistan embarks on this crucial tour, the PCB’s decision to retain Aaqib Javed and bring in Mohammad Yousuf reflects their commitment to building a competitive and well-prepared team for the challenges ahead.
