Six killed as assailants open fire on car in Gujrat

LALAMUSA: Tragedy struck on the first day of Ramadan in Gujrat when six people lost their lives in a brutal gun attack on their vehicle in Dinga town on Sunday.

Unidentified armed assailants opened fire on a Hilux Vigo near Miana Chak Bhargran in the jurisdiction of Dinga police stateion, killing all the occupants, including driver and armed guards.

The deceased were identified as Zahid Nazim (34), son of Muhammad Azam; Mubashir (31), son of Shafi; Zamir (34), son of Muhammad Hanif; Javed Iqbal (40), son of Nazir Ahmed; Rukhsar Ali (35), son of Hakim Ali – all residents of Dinga Khurd, except Javed Iqbal, who hailed from Charanwala. The identity of another victim was yet to be ascertained. Initial reports suggested that the incident stemmed from a longstanding enmity.

Following the incident, the law enforcement agencies personnel cordoned off the crime scene and launched a manhunt to track down the perpetrators.

The police have launched investigation into the case, with

Punjab’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar seeking a detailed report from Regional Police Officer, Gujranwala, Tayyab Hafeez Cheema.

The IGP has also directed District Police Officer, Gujrat, Mustansir Atta Bajwa, to ensure swift arrest of those responsible for the heinous act.
