Unconscionable salary hike
The recent enormous increase in the salaries of MNAs and senators, followed by a previous increase for lawmakers in Punjab, has left the poor people of this country astonished. Have we become rich overnight, or is this the waste of the taxes that we paid with our hard-earned money? This pay hike comes despite the fact that most of our legislators hardly ever attend assembly sessions, which are frequently prorogued due to lack of quorum. Bills are often passed without many legislators having even read them.
Now we must wait for other assemblies to follow suit. Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan reportedly announced a cut in the profit rate of Bahbood saving certificates, which are primarily held by senior citizens and widows, last month.
