Arrest of social activist triggers protest

ORAKZAI: Protests broke out in upper parts of Orakzai, including Ghaljo and Dabori bazaars, against the arrest of social worker Najeebur Rehman.

The police had arrested Najeebur Rehman following a tribal jirga at the Orakzai headquarters. After Friday prayers, the local residents took to the streets in multiple areas, chanting slogans against police brutality and in support of Najeebur Rahman. Carrying banners condemning the arrest, the protesters insisted that he was targeted for highlighting the region’s issues.Addressing the protest, Village Council Chairman Muhammad Karim Sajid and other community leaders denounced the arrest, calling it an act of oppression.
