QUETTA: Death toll in flash floods in the Wadh Saro area of Khuzdar district on Thursday rose to 11 as rescue workers fetched more bodies from hill torrents when water level recedes. According to Deputy Commissioner, Khuzdar, Syed Abdul Waheed Shah about 22 people were washed away in the flash floods.
All the victims were nomads and residents of villages. There was a cloud burst followed by heavy rain, District Administration officials said, adding that water level rose almost in all rivers after the rains which wreaked havoc in the area.
The rescue operation commenced at the break of the day but only to find the bodies of drowned as the affected area was inaccessible. So far 14 bodies had been recovered and 9 more were missing, rescue volunteers said.The death toll was expected to rise as search for the missing persons continued, DC Khuzdar said.
