Sindh narcotics control dept, IB seize Rs800m heroin
The Sindh Narcotics Control Department and the Intelligence Bureau on Monday seized 14 kilograms of export quality heroin worth Rs800 million in a joint intelligence-based operation.
Officials said that on the instructions of Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Sindh Mukesh Kumar Chawla, actions against drug peddlers have been intensified across the province. The Sindh Narcotics Control Department, in collaboration with the IB, seized 14 kilograms of export-quality heroin worth Rs800 million in a successful intelligence-based action during the search of a passenger coach at a check post.
According to the spokesperson for the excise department, the suspect arrested during the operation is Ali Raza, a resident of Peshawar, who was travelling from Peshawar to Karachi.
According to the initial investigation, after being transferred from Peshawar to Karachi, the heroin was to be smuggled abroad. Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla expressed gratitude for the coordination and cooperation of the IB Sukkur and appreciated its initiatives during the operation. He also directed the Narcotics Control Department to intensify indiscriminate operations to prevent drugs. He ordered making the intelligence network more extensive and active, as well as continuing the road checking campaign without fail throughout the week. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Home Minister and Chairman Executive Council CPLC Ziaul Hassan Lanjar regarding CPLC Rules. Officials said that in the meeting, the chairman of the CPLC Executive Council approved the inclusion of five public sector personalities as members, under which five personalities from the public sector will be made part of the CPLC as members of the Executive Council. The term of the five members will be three years and they will look after the matters of law, health, commerce, law enforcement agencies, public service and education.
The meeting was attended by the additional chief secretary for home, Sindh IGP, secretary law, secretary for provincial Public Safety and Police Complaints Commission and CPLC chief. It is clear that under the recent amendments made to the CPLC rules, Home Minister Lanjar will be the chairman of the CPLC Executive Council.
