Commissioner orders speedy completion of flyover before Eid
Rawalpindi:Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak, has directed authorities to ensure the completion of the Khawaja Corporation Flyover at Adiala Road before Eidul Fitr at all costs. Currently, 45 per cent of the construction work on the flyover has been completed.
During his visit to the Khawaja Corporation Flyover and GPO Chowk Underpass on Tuesday, Commissioner Khattak reviewed the progress of both projects. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, Assistant Commissioner Almas Sabih, and other relevant officials. The commissioner emphasized the need to expedite construction while maintaining quality and transparency. He highlighted that completing the Khawaja Corporation Flyover would help alleviate the persistent traffic congestion on Adiala Road. Officials briefed him that work on the project, awarded on December 5, 2024, is progressing steadily, with special focus on both speed and efficiency.
Commissioner Khattak also inspected the construction of the GPO Chowk Underpass at Mall Road, Saddar. The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has been awarded the contract for this critical infrastructure project. He assured that all business centres affected by the project would be provided necessary facilities, including proper parking arrangements. He stressed the importance of engaging stakeholders and prioritizing their concerns while ensuring minimal disruption to city traffic.
Furthermore, he directed officials to focus on the timely relocation of utilities to prevent delays. He noted that the completion of this underpass would significantly improve the city’s traffic flow, ensuring safer and more convenient travel for the public.
Commissioner Khattak urged citizens to cooperate during the construction phase, emphasizing that any temporary inconvenience would be replaced by long-term relief. He instructed all relevant departments to utilize all available resources for the timely completion of both projects. By accelerating construction and addressing logistical challenges, the administration aims to deliver these much-needed infrastructure improvements for the people of Rawalpindi.
