Labourers stage protest at Torkham
LANDIKOTAL: The laborers at the Torkham border on Saturday staged a protest in support of their demands and they marched in the bazaar.
Holding banners and black flags, the protesters marched from Nadra Chowk to the customs house.
A large number of laborers and their leaders, including Hazrat Salam Shinwari, Farman Shinwari and other community leaders participated in the demonstration. They condemned the alleged maltreatment of laborers by customs officials. They accused the customs officials of seizing goods brought by laborers and subjecting them to harassment.
During the protest, the labour leaders warned that all laborers would stage an indefinite sit-in at the Torkham border if the unfair treatment continued.
They urged the authorities to provide employment opportunities for laborers, stop their unjust harassment and offer relief so they could earn a lawful livelihood for their families.
