Honour killing case registered after 14 years

LAHORE:Hayer police have registered a murder case 14 years after the honour killing of a woman named Sophia. The case was filed at the Hayer police station on the complaint of Shahid Ali, a resident of Bedian Road. According to the FIR, Shahid Ali married Sophia, a resident of Chungi Amar Sadhu, in 2012 out of love.

A month after the marriage, Sophia’s parents invited her to their home under the pretext of reconciliation. However, a few days later, her father and uncle arrived at Shahid’s house, demanding that Sophia return with them. When Shahid refused, he was allegedly threatened with dire consequences. Fearing for his life, Shahid moved to Sahiwal and remarried. Despite multiple attempts by Shahid’s family to resolve the matter with Sophia’s parents, no solution was reached.

Later, Shahid learned that Sophia had been killed by her father, uncle, and two unidentified accomplices, and her body had been dumped in a canal. The murder case has been registered against Sophia’s father Arif, her uncle Shaukat, and two unidentified suspects. Police sources revealed that the case was filed with assistance from the Organised Crime Unit, and efforts to arrest the accused are underway, with multiple raids being conducted.

Fight between two groups leaves one dead

A man was killed during a clash between two groups in Green Town area, police said here on Monday. The deceased identified as Razzaq sustained a severe head injury during the altercation and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

According to initial reports, the incident stemmed from an argument between the two groups that escalated into violence. Razzaq was critically injured during the fight and was rushed to the hospital for medical assistance but could not survive.

Four female thieves arrested

Under the directives of CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana and the supervision of DIG Imran Kishwar, the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) of Model Town Division has arrested four female suspects involved in a theft case.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Sana (wife of Humayun), Anum (wife of Nadir Masih), Shahnaz (wife of Javed Masih) and Sheeba (daughter of Humayun). The suspects were apprehended after a series of raids in Lahore, Kasur and Multan. Sana and Shahnaz who worked as domestic maids, collaborated with Anum and Sheeba to carry out the theft. Sana has also a prior criminal record.

Drug smuggling attempt thwarted

Mughalpura Police successfully thwarted a drug smuggling attempt by arresting a two-member group red-handed with a significant amount of drugs. The suspects, Nadeem and Naveed, were found in possession of over 10 kilograms of cannabis worth millions of rupees.

The accused were involved in supplying drugs to youth in various parts of Lahore. In another intelligence-based operation, Millat Park Police apprehended a wanted fugitive, Nisar Dogar, involved in a heinous murder case. The suspect was wanted by Sandha Police for a double murder committed four years ago.

Edhi ambulance stolen

An ambulance belonging to the Edhi Foundation was stolen from the organisation’s centre located at General Hospital. According to the Edhi Foundation spokesperson, the stolen ambulance bears the registration number EA 1611. The theft was immediately reported to the Kot Lakhpat police station, where an FIR has been registered, and an investigation has been launched.
