Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon has stated that no reports have been received regarding any Chinese citizen in the province being subjected to extortion by any police officer.
He has mentioned that the matter currently under judicial consideration is being investigated.
Speaking to this correspondent on Saturday, IGP Memon explained that due to security concerns in the province, the movement of Chinese nationals remains limited. He emphasized that adherence to Standard Operating Procedures for the security of foreign nationals is mandatory for the police.
He further said that ensuring the security and provision of safe accommodations for Chinese citizens in Karachi is primarily the responsibility of their local sponsors. However, the police are fulfilling their role in this regard. He pointed out that due to security concerns, local sponsors are also not receiving the same level of response as before.
Despite the challenges, the IGP affirmed that the security of our “Chinese brothers” cannot be compromised. He also informed this correspondent that a thorough investigation is underway regarding judicial proceedings involving Chinese citizens.
