LAHORE:The Planning & Development Board, in collaboration with the Global Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC) and MoCC&EC, Islamabad, organised a consultative workshop to discuss the process of updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) 3.0 in Punjab.
Secretary Planning and Development Board Punjab Dr Asif Tufail was the guest of honour on the occasion. The session provided a platform to share the province’s climate-related achievements and future priorities. The NDC, a key document under the Paris Agreement, outlines Pakistan’s climate action commitments and reflects the country’s dedication to achieving climate resilience and sustainable development. Under Article 4 of the Paris Agreement, all parties, including Pakistan, are required to prepare and communicate with their NDCs.
This revision seeks to enhance ambition while ensuring a data-driven, inclusive process that brings together all provincial stakeholders. The consultative session in Punjab marks the beginning of a series of provincial meetings aimed at ensuring the revision process is collaborative, transparent, and aligned with national goals.
The session also aimed to: Introduce members to the approach for NDC revision and solicit feedback on the methodology and to finalize the formation of a provincial working group to support the NDC revision process. The upcoming provincial sessions will continue to provide a platform for the provinces to share insights, concerns, and priorities related to climate adaptation and mitigation.
These efforts will not only strengthen Pakistan’s NDC 3.0 but will also ensure the process is inclusive and reflects the country’s diverse climate needs and challenges. Chief Environment and Climate Change Section of Planning and Development Board Miss Saba Asghar Ali, Executive director GCISC Dr Arif Goheer and representatives of departments concerned also attended the workshop.
