Imran warns of agitation after Eid

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has warned that nothing would be able to stop his party from taking to streets after Eid if a commission was not formed to investigate the Panama Leaks.

In a meeting at his Bani Gala residence here on Sunday, Imran directed senior party leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi to meet the opposition parties and evolve a joint anti-government strategy. He expressed his serious concerns over the attitude of the incumbent government.

Imran said the government’s attitude was very disappointing, and it was evading accountability. He said any attempts to sweep the Panama Leaks issue under the carpet would not succeed.

During the consultative meeting, chaired by Imran Khan, Qureshi informed the party leaders about the developments taking place in the meetings of the parliamentary committee, formed to finalise the terms of reference (ToRs) to investigate the issue of Panama Leaks.

Qureshi told the meeting the PML-N government did not want accountability of the prime minister and his family regarding the Panama Papers disclosures. He said there was no use of participation in the committee meetings anymore.

The PTI vice-chairman claimed that the government was not serious in chalking out consensus ToRs. So far seven meetings of the parliamentary committee, comprising members from the government and opposition parties, have been held but the deadlock persists.

The PTI meeting also discussed the party’s interim set-up and the campaign against corruption in Sindh. Other party leaders including Naeemul Haq, Faisal Javed, Mauman Wazir also attended the meeting.
