LALAMUSA: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Chaudhry Qamar Zaman Kaira has voiced his anguish over the Mauritania-Morocco boat tragedy that claimed the lives of at least 44 Pakistanis.
Speaking to media, Kaira condemned the heinous exploitation of vulnerable youths by human traffickers and urged immediate government action to prevent such disasters in the future. “This tragedy is even more horrifying than the previous ones,” Kaira lamented. “Children have died in this incident, and this loss is simply unbearable. These human traffickers prey on the innocence of our youths, selling them false dreams of a better future abroad, only to exploit or abandon them in foreign lands like Libya or Morocco.”
Kaira emphasised that the issue extended beyond Mauritania, describing the widespread human trafficking network as a heinous business that thrived on deception and despair. Kaira highlighted the steps taken by the government to address the immediate aftermath of the tragedy. “I have requested Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif to take urgent action, and I am grateful that he has ordered arrangements for the repatriation of the victims’ bodies,” he said. The PPP leader also called for stricter measures to dismantle the trafficking networks responsible for such tragedies. “These traffickers are the real murderers,” he declared. “They extort money from innocent families and endanger the lives of their children. Full disciplinary action must be taken against them to ensure justice and deterrence.” Kaira appealed to the citizens to exercise caution and refrain from sending their children abroad through illegal channels. “While the government must strengthen its mechanisms to prevent such tragedies, the public also had a vital role to play in making informed decisions and protecting their families from such risks,” he emphasised.
