‘Suthra Punjab’ cleanliness initiative to be reviewed from Monday
Rawalpindi : The district administration will begin an extensive review of the 'Suthra Punjab' programme across all tehsils starting Monday. This initiative aims to enhance cleanliness and ensure effective waste management throughout the Rawalpindi Division.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Amir Khattak, has emphasised the establishment of a dedicated solid waste control room in each tehsil. He directed that these control rooms be equipped with necessary machinery, sufficient human resources, and solid waste officers to ensure smooth operations. A clear action plan must also be in place to meet the programme's targets.
To assess the arrangements, the administration will conduct visits to all districts and tehsils starting next week. Commissioner Khattak stressed that visible improvements in cleanliness must be evident following the programme’s implementation.
Assistant Commissioners have been tasked with closely monitoring the 'Suthra Punjab' programme and ensuring adherence to the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The commissioner also underscored the importance of involving local communities and public representatives to promote a sense of ownership and ensure the programme’s success.
These directives were issued during a review meeting of the Divisional Coordination Committee, held at the Commissioner’s Office in Rawalpindi. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema, DG RDA Kinzi Murtaza, Director Development, and heads of various government departments. Deputy Commissioners from Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Murree joined the meeting via video link.
In addition to cleanliness efforts, the Commissioner highlighted the 14 special initiatives introduced by Chief Minister Punjab to provide relief to citizens. These initiatives include the Internship Programme, Punjab Dhi Rani Programme, Himmat Card, Socio-Economic Registry, E-bikes, Maryam Ki Dastak, Green Tractor, Kisan Package, road repair and rehabilitation projects, Green Punjab, Apni Chhat Apni Ghar, and various health-related measures.
Commissioner Khattak emphasized the need to align each project with a timeline for efficient implementation and thorough monitoring to achieve the best possible results.
