Ayaz Sadiq urges govt, opposition to utilise speaker’s office for talks
Speaker emphasises importance of constructive dialogue to resolve issues through mutual understanding
ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has reminded both the government and the opposition of their shared responsibility to utilise the platform of negotiations provided by the Speaker’s Office for the nation’s progress and the welfare of its people.
“His unwavering commitment to fostering dialogue and ensuring the success of these negotiations exemplifies his dedication to strengthening democracy and harmony in the country”, the spokesman for the Speaker’s office in a statement said.
The statement said that Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has played a vital role in reducing political tension and fostering constructive dialogue between the government and the opposition through significant and thoughtful initiatives.
The Speaker has repeatedly emphasised the importance of positive and constructive dialogue to resolve issues through mutual understanding. “In the last session, he issued an official ruling affirming that the doors of the Speaker’s Office remain open to all members at all times, ensuring equal access for all political stakeholders”, the statement reminded both the government and the opposition
It states that even in the Speaker’s absence, Members of Parliament can easily communicate through his office. The Speaker’s staff ensures that all messages are promptly delivered to him. In situations where the Speaker may be in his constituency, attending a meeting, or temporarily unavailable, Members of Parliament are encouraged to utilise this channel for correspondence.
In a recent development following the NA Speaker’s message, the government arranged a meeting of its negotiation committee with the Founder of PTI at Adiala Jail.
“This initiative, praised by both the government and the opposition, underscores the Speaker’s neutrality and pivotal role in fostering reconciliation.
The government officially notified the Speaker’s Office at 2:30pm on Sunday regarding the committee meeting, reflecting the importance of the facilitation provided by the Speaker’s Office and the commitment of both parties to engage in dialogue.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has not only advocated for allocating more time to the opposition than the government in parliamentary proceedings but has also successfully implemented this approach. This balanced strategy has contributed to creating a more equitable political environment, the statement said.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has consistently stressed the importance of mutual respect and dignified treatment among all political actors. His continued efforts to facilitate the negotiation process have resulted in previously reluctant parties now sitting together at the same table, the statement concluded.
