ISLAMABAD: Bangladesh has removed its press counsellor in Islamabad mission Tayab Ali and four other diplomats from four other countries and asked them to report to Dhaka immediately.

Diplomatic sources told The News that they all were appointed by deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration.

According to a notification issued by the Bangladesh government, the recalled diplomats are Tayab Ali (Islamabad), Sufi Abdullahil Maruf, First Secretary (Press) Kuala Lumpur, Arifur Rahman, First Secretary (Press), Dubai, Asaduzzaman Khan, Second Secretary (Press), Riyadh, and Imranul Hasan, Second Secretary (Press), Tokyo.

The notification says these officials, who are working under the Ministry of I&B, should return within 15 working days for reappointment. Earlier, the Bangladesh government appointed two journalists as Press Ministers at New Delhi and London missions on November 24.

Akbar Hossain Mojumder, a senior journalist from BBC Dhaka Bureau, was appointed to the UK mission, and Faisal Mahmud to the New Delhi mission.
