Those who regularly travel via the Lyari Express Way (LEW) in Karachi are aware that the toll rates have been increased several times within a few months. About six months back, the toll was raised from Rs30 to Rs50 but no voice was raised by anyone including public representatives and political leaders. This perhaps encouraged the relevant authorities to raise the rates even further to Rs60.
It may be mentioned that the LEW is a small track of about 16 KM. As such, the hike appears to be highly unjustified. Further, the surroundings of the track have become very dangerous due to the lack of fencing or side walls at a number of places, which needs immediate attention.
