The ongoing toll of human lives in Karachi continued, as a speeding dumper claimed the lives of two more individuals on Thursday. The accident took place on Hub River Road in Baldia Town, when a speeding dumper collided with a motorcycle, killing both riders. Police and rescue teams transported the victims to the Civil Hospital, Karachi.
The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Akbar, son of Sher, and Jamil, 30, son of Faiz. Initial reports indicated that the two men were riding the motorcycle when they were struck by the rear wheels of the dumper, resulting in their instant deaths. The driver of the dumper fled the scene following the incident.
Authorities seized the dumper and were gathering information about its owner and driver. As of the latest update, no formal case had been registered. This latest tragedy highlights the ongoing issue of road safety in Karachi. According to 2024 statistics, 773 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in the city last year, including 602 men, 88 women, 62 boys, and 21 girls. Furthermore, 8,111 individuals sustained injuries in road accidents during the same period.
