In the TV series ‘Squid Game’, viewers are thrust into an imaginary world where financially desperate individuals compete in deadly games for a massive cash prize. The TV show offers an ugly exploration of human behaviour under extreme pressure, driven by greed, survival, and general inequalities. ‘Squid Game’ and the corporate world share a dark theme. Both feature cutthroat competition, where individuals must adapt or perish. Both reveal harsh realities about competition and survival. In both, people must adapt to succeed, often at the cost of their values and relationships. The stress is overwhelming, and betrayal becomes common as individuals fight to stay ahead.
Temporary alliances in the TV series resemble the fleeting partnerships in the corporate world, built on self-interest. Both systems are driven by inequality. ‘Squid Game’s’ contestants, trapped by debt, are like workers stuck in a system that favours the wealthy and powerful. Weaker players are exploited, just as small businesses or low-wage workers are dominated by big corporations. Greed and competition leave little room for fairness or kindness. Ultimately, both worlds force us to ask, can we create systems that value fairness and humanity over greed?
