EU hypocrisy

The EU’s statement about the military trials in Pakistan and their concern that the verdicts against those involved in the May 9, 2024 riots were not in line with international laws was most expected. The reminder about Pakistan’s status under the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences plus (GSP+), which gives us certain trade benefits, appeared to be an implicit threat.
As a developing country, Pakistan is vulnerable to such covert threats about not straying too far from ‘international laws’. Countries like Israel, however, do not need to comply with any such rules and can get away with anything. It continues to commit genocide and not an eyebrow is raised by the EU, Britain or the USA.
