About 7 lakh students enroll with AIOU in spring semester
Islamabad
Over 6,90,000 students entered into the educational net of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in spring 2016 semester (Six months period), which are the highest-ever number in the university’s long history, since 1976.
The increase in the students’ enrollment was around 50,000 as compared to the last figure. Since spring 2013 semester, there was down-ward trend of students’ admission, which got improved within a period of one and a half years by streamlining the admission, mailing, evaluation and examination system. At the same greater focus was laid on quality of education and research-based activities, this was stated by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while presiding over the meeting of senior academicians and services’ Heads here Friday.
He hoped that overall annual students’ enrollment will be reaching close to 1.4 million, with the start of new admissions that will take place from August 1 to September 5. If we compare with the accumulated students’ enrollment figures of all the universities of the country, the AIOU will be on the top. It was all due to the trust-worthy and credible system of education that was being carried out for the last four decades.
The growing enrollment showed that the university reached to peoples’ door-steps in all parts of the country, through well-organised multi-media support. There is considerable increase in the students’ trust in the university’s open distance learning system as well.
