Swat journalist remembered on first death anniversary

MINGORA: The first death anniversary of journalist Ghulam Farooq was commemorated on December 18.A condolence reference was arranged at the Swat Press Club in Mingora to mark the occasion.

The event was attended by journalists, political and social figures, lawyers, business community members, and representatives of various organizations. Those who addressed the gathering included journalist Rifaat Orakzai, District Development Advisory Committee Chairman Akhtar Khan, Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Mehboob, District Police Officer Nasir Mahmood and others.

The speakers praised the late journalist for his support to truth, justice, and the oppressed, emphasizing his role in the peace and prosperity of Swat. They remembered Ghulam Farooq for evidence-based reporting and as the editor-in-chief of the Daily Shamal Swat.

Born in Mingora in 1967 to Abdul Khaliq, Ghulam Farooq began his journalism career in 1993. Over the years, he earned awards in recognition of his dedication and outstanding journalistic services.

The speakers said the legacy of his work and commitment to truth remains a beacon for journalists in the region. A conference hall at the Press Club was named after him. The ceremony concluded with a fateha prayer for the soul of Ghulam Farooq, with those present reaffirming their respect and admiration for his contributions to the field of journalism and society at large.
