‘50m people lack access to essential healthcare’
Islamabad : On this International Human Rights Day, Maroof International Hospital (MIH) reaffirms its commitment to healthcare as a fundamental human right, celebrating the belief that health is integral to dignity and equality. As the world observes this day, we reflect on the millions still deprived of essential healthcare due to systemic barriers like poverty and inequality. At MIH, we are driven by the mission to change this reality, says a press release.
Today, MIH celebrates a monumental achievement under the visionary leadership of Haroon Naseer, CEO of Maroof International Hospital. Naseer has been honoured with the prestigious Human Rights Award by Human Rights Council Pakistan, in recognition of his unwavering efforts to ensure that healthcare is accessible to all, regardless of background or circumstance.
“Over 50 million people in Pakistan lack access to essential healthcare due to poverty and inadequate infrastructure, violating their fundamental right to health,” said Haroon Naseer. “With 70% of the population in rural areas facing severe healthcare access issues, it leads to preventable diseases and higher mortality rates, deepening inequality.”
He added, “A shortage of nurses and over 80% of Pakistanis lacking health insurance means many are denied affordable care. At MIH, we are committed to ensuring healthcare is a right for everyone, and we are focused on bridging these critical gaps.” This recognition highlights Naseer’s dedication to transforming healthcare in Pakistan. Under his leadership, MIH has revolutionized patient care, placing a strong emphasis on dignity and inclusion. Through over 100 free medical camps, health awareness initiatives, and outreach programs in underserved communities, MIH has empowered individuals with access to essential care, ensuring healthier lives for those who need it most.
But Naseer’s vision extends beyond healthcare services. His leadership has fostered a culture of inclusivity, where employees are celebrated, motivated, and recognized for their contributions. Through employee welfare policies and initiatives like the Annual Staff Fest, Employee Recognition Awards, and community health programs, MIH promotes an environment of compassion and empowerment.
