Real work for Suthra Punjab starts: Zeeshan

LAHORE:Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq has said after the launch of the Suthra Punjab programme, the real work has started now and masses’ expectations have to be met in every case.

He was addressing a video link meeting of CEOs of waste management companies at Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday. The minister congratulated the CEOs on the successful launch of Suthra Punjab programme, adding that everyone worked day and night to fulfill the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The minister directed the CEOs to ensure the attendance of the field staff, warning that action would be taken against the absentees. He directed that at least three loader rickshaws and 11 officials should be provided in each union council.

“The presence of handcarts was necessary for the narrow streets of the villages”, he pointed-out. He pledged that the Punjab government would provide funds for the purchase of new handcarts.

He said that, currently, there were 10,000 waste enclosures. Zeeshan Rafiq said if good cleaning services are provided by the contractors, the citizens will also cooperate happily. He warned that action would be taken on poor performance while those, showing good performance, will be rewarded.

Taking notice for not uploading weekly data about some tehsils on the portal, the minister directed the special secretary to prepare “key performance indicators” and checklist for effective accountability.

LWMC continues cleanup operation

Under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's Vision Suthra Punjab, the LWMC continued an uninterrupted city-wide cleanup operation. LWMC staffers conducted a mega cleaning operation in Ravi Town Zone 03, clearing over 55 waste points. The cleaning operation involved over 180 workers.

The company CEO emphasised that the cleaning operation was part of the company’s commitment to maintaining a clean environment for Lahore’s residents. He said that daily scraping and manual sweeping operations would be continued along the service lanes of Ring Road adjacent to Zone 03.

Additionally, to ensure waste points are kept clear in the long term, 55 new waste containers will be installed in the area. The cleanliness operations are also ongoing in other areas, including Drain Road, Abu Bakar Road, Khokhar Road, Hussain Park Siddiqpura, and surrounding neighborhoods.

LWMC officers were personally supervising these efforts to ensure 100% worker attendance and the smooth execution of the cleaning operations. CEO LWMC urged the citizens of Lahore to support these efforts by disposing of waste properly in designated bins, thus contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment.
