Smoke-emitting vehicles will not be allowed: Punjab AG
Justice Shahid Karim says government has done nothing so far about issue of smoke-emitting vehicles
LAHORE: The Advocate General (AG) Punjab has said smoke-emitting vehicles will not be allowed on roads now. He made the statement during the hearing of a petition seeking the court’s orders for the eradication of smog which was heard by Justice Shahid Karim of LHC on Tuesday.
Justice Shahid Karim remarked this was a big case. The government should have been here. The government has done nothing so far and I am identifying it daily. The government will have to move beyond simply producing policy papers. He further remarked there is a need to form long-term policies. This way things will not work. He remarked that the transport sector is the major cause of environmental pollution.
The AG Punjab said the government has framed a long-term plan. An action plan has been framed. Responsibility has been assigned to every department.
