Skilled manpower to be sent to global market: Shafay
LAHORE : Provincial Minister of Industry and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said the skilled manpower will be prepared according to the requirement of the industry and the skilled manpower will also be sent to the global market so that the country will earn foreign exchange.
He expressed these views at the signing of 3-year collaboration agreement between Tevta and University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore on Saturday.
Chaudhry Shafay was the chief guest at the agreement signing ceremony. Chairman Tevta M Sajid Khokher and Rector University Dr Asif Raza signed the agreement. President UMT Ibrahim Hassan Murad, senior DG Tevta Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, Prof Dr Abid Sherwani and others participated in the event. As per the agreement, training workshops and training events will be organized jointly. For the promotion of skill development, there will be mutual exchange of experiences and expertise.
Courses will be prepared jointly with regard to various technologies and trades and UMT will organize short-term courses and programmes to enhance the capacity of the teaching staff.
Participation of Tevta students will be ensured in workshops, seminars and conferences organised by the University. Research, publications and other academic information will be mutually exchanged, focal persons will be appointed for the implementation of the agreement and a joint working group will be formed.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Minister of Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said that the agreement reached between Tevta and UMT is welcome step and the implementation of the agreement will help in the promotion of quality technical education.
In order to provide employment to the skilled manpower, it is necessary to increase the linkages between academia and industry.
The provincial minister said that the labs and courses of Tevta institutes are being upgraded and centres of excellence are being built with the support of the Asian Development Bank. He said that to promote e-commerce is need of the hour and the issue to improve internet services will be discussed with the federal government.
Head of UMT, Ibrahim Hasan Murad said that an important milestone has been reached with the agreement between UMT and Tevta. According to the need of market, skilled manpower will be prepared. Chairman Tevta M Sajid Khokhar said that evening classes have also been launched in Tevta's institutions.
