BANNU: The police foiled an attack on a post in the Mazang area in the district, officials said on Thursday. Officials said unidentified miscreants attacked the Mazang police post early in the day, triggering an exchange of fire.
They said that the cops engaged the attackers while reinforcement was sent to the spot and the exchange of fire continued for hours.Deputy Inspector General of Police Imran Shahid and District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmad rushed to the area along with armored personnel carriers.
“The attackers escaped after the arrival of the reinforcement,” said an official, adding a search operation had been launched in the surrounding areas after the attack.Meanwhile, an explosive device went off near the government Degree College Bakkhakhel. However, no causality occurred in the incident.
Sources said that the miscreants had planted explosives near the building of the college which exploded with a bang but caused no casualty.It was the second such incident in the district as an under-construction building of a school was blown up in the Huwaid area earlier. Police officials said that they were investigating the incident.
